" Why do I have to do SO MUCH Editing of MY ART on this Site ??? Whats it all about ??? "
It is my goal with AHI-FAN To empower you, as an emerging online Artist, using the Internet as a way to show and sell your work globally, all the important, behind the scenes tasks, you should know about and how to do, that will save you time and effort in the future, as well as save you on having to pay others to do things you can do yourself, in promoting and advertising your art online.
To me, when I see a member who has correclty titled, tagged, described and categorized their artwork for online viewing, it is totally awesome, when artists like Nan Wright , Jacquei Essex, Fran Hoffpaur, Christine Perry and some others, for example, who have completed 'proper editing' of their art online~ that tells me that each one of them is serious about their art and are "teachable", in that they are willing to do whatever it takes, to get themselves established online, as a credible artists and art sellers worthy of public consideration worldwide.
That means when anyone is looking for any of their specific types of art and works, that have been done by each of them, that the viewers/ art collectors/ art resellers/ buyers will be able to find them and their artworks readily available to them ~
Making it easier for viewers to find your work online, increases the chances of selling success and obtaining commissioned art projects.
"It kind of reminds me of the karate Kid Movies - snd the floor~! lol~ you know the part, where the kid didn't understand or know why the old man was pushing him, [as he wanted to learn Karate] but the actual exercise of sanding the floor was preparing him for being fit to do Karate~"
It is the same for Artists loading their art online, ANYWHERE, that if they don't put identifying markers on their work~ it never will make it into search engines positions worth noting.
Many websites DON'T CARE !!! ~ as they are only concerned with keeping the Artist at THEIR Site and only concerned with what makes them money or gives them power.
Most are only looking to have you there as a commodity by which they can profit, regardless to if you ever do~ Sure, some will offer free galleries, but only so they can sell your work and give you pennies on the dollar~
Ebay for example may hope you sell as it makes them look good, but since they charge listing fees, they make money on you and from you even when you dont have a sale~ so they win whether or not you do.
Same with Imagekind, Fine Art America, ArtWanted and so on. They need your art to gain popularity and so they do.
BUT when it comes to making money, they charge you to be able to use their services by requiring paid memberships~ You cant blame them as they are a business and for some emerging artists online, t hey seem to be the only game around that at least provides a little hope of success.
On AHI-FAN You can still work , show, promote and sell EVEN AS A FREE MEMBER~
Most sites like these however, since they are in competition with one another, will not allow you to advertise other websites you may be selling on. They are out for their best interest, not yours~!
On AHI-FAN YOU are encouraged to list all the websites you sell and show at so that YOU are the one promoted and that viewers can see all of your work on the web and then make their own informed choices as to where to buy any of your work~
These things set AHI-FAN apart from the crowd !
AHI-FAN is for YOU the ARTIST, to HELP YOU TO SUCCEED.
I dont charge any %commissions on your work~ It is your work~!
You should be able to sell it and keep what you have earned.
Things I do however charge for are things that cost me to give, such as printing services.
I have to pay for ink , papers and postage that I will print work for members.
I have researched what it costs me to produce art prints and also checked the POD Sites pricing and try to keep competive with the POD sites, but I am just a single person [with 5 professional printers]~
I do all the work myself, so while I may charge similar prices to the POD's I am not making anywhere near the kind of profits that they do~ I have figured the costs to where I can give a member 30% of the print sale and cover my expenses and make 10% of the sale for my work involved.
I also encourage you to shop around to find cheaper print service prices, as I do likewise.
In a sense, as I was told, that I compete against myself when revealing the names of companies that can produce your art cheaper than I can, lol.
I also now just started to charge a nominal fee/amount for excessive time & work I may have to do when I do the editing of member's works, that they should edit themselves.
I work over 100 hours every week, mostly doing simple repetitive tasks of cleaning up members galleries, which they should be doing themselves. I dont have time to even do my own artwork~!!!
I think most can't fathom or might not even realize how much work I do for them, behind the scenes.
Most members seem to think it is easier and faster for me to do their editing work, like I have some magic wand and wave it & the work is done, whereas in reality it takes me just as many hours and letters to type on my keyboard,as it would for them to do it themselves, since this is a manually operated website, not an automated business , but a site built by an artist, me , to help other artists. I make mistakes, I am a person. When editing for example, I mispelled a member's name~ Well when doing their gallery, I copy and pasted that mistake into each of their pictures. The member saw it and wrote to tell me of my mistake. It wasnt like I had a button to push and correct it~ I had to go in and change every single picture adding in the missing letter to their name~ Now since , from my viewpoint, this editing was a courtesy, the member could have just edited each of their own pictures adding the missing letter to their name.... But it was a new member and the site is very confusing when a person first joins, as it jumps to the heart of the matter in trying to show a member how to edit their own work right off the bat.
"I can no longer afford to feed the fish , so to speak, that is to edit every individual member's work for them, but instead I will teach you all how to fish instead~ "
That is to say, to show by example how a member is to edit their own art work :)
This will give each the power and control needed over their own unique internet experience and the direction and commitment each is willing to take in showing, promoting and selling their art online.
What I am sharing, is to enable artists to be able to show and sell their art ANYWHERE ONLINE and be able to look out for themselves~ SELF PROMOTE !
THE EDITING TECHNIQUES I am sharing although a bit complicated at first, with a little practice becomes 'second nature' and actually will speed listing and promoting up for each individual artist in the years to come as the work online.
So for now ,you and the others may be 'sanding the floor' but tomorrow will be ready for a karate match, when it comes to competing for viewers and customers for your art that is shown everywhere online :)
